There's a W.C. Fields gag that involves two drunks staggering home. One asks what time it is; the other knocks over a dustbin whilst trying to focus on his watch...a window opens and an angry neighbour shouts out "What are you doin' making all this noise at 3am" This is the song they would sing.

If we heard a nightingale
We’d try to sing along
Spend a night in jail
Sing a bar-room song
Touch my nose and walk the line
A drunken dance for Saint Valentine
The patron saint of falling down
Keeping busy all over town
Lifting the dark and heavy foam
A thimbleful or a jeroboam
But we; we just want to go home

Lyrics

We All Want To Go Home Now

We all want to go home now
We’ve all had a great time
Sang songs and drank wine
Played tunes in the old time
Delta blues and ragtime
And You Are My Sunshine
But we want to go home now
We’re all going home

We all want to go home now
It’s getting late and we’re worn out
Talked into the wee hours
We watched the fire go out
Drunk too much no doubt
We’d sleep on this cold ground
But we want to go home now
We’re all going home

We all want to go home now
We’ve watched the moon fall
Brought down by a bird’s call
A dawn chorus caterwaul
Now the whole world’s starting to crawl
Just want to remember it all
We want to go home now
We’re all going home

We all want to go home now
We’ve all had a great time
Sang songs and drank wine
Played tunes in the old time
Delta blues and ragtime
And You Are My Sunshine
But we want to go home now
We’re all going home
