I would describe myself as a contemporary singer songwriter and poet from Edinburgh. I’ve been writing songs for longer than I care to remember although I’ve only really been performing for the last few years. I originally decided to record my first CD, birthmarked, as a way of documenting my songs and I’ve now produced another solo CD, The Journeyman. My music also features on three collaborative works; Companions, War On War and The Harbour At Symi as well as Speaking In Tongues with The Travelling Waverlies, a group of singer-songwriters and poets. I'm currently at the initial stages of starting another CD with the working title As Eden Lay In Darkness, which I hope will turn out to be a Tom Fairnie and The Snakes CD.

If you wish to purchase a CD then please go to my music page and you'll find the store there. If you'd like to contact me then please email info@tomfairnie.com. If you'd like to leave me a comment or message then there's a guestbook just below the "News" section on this page. I look forward to hearing from you!

The first 6 tracks from the new album now available for download on my Music page. Shoeshine Boy, Falling Down, If I Could Hold Her In My Arms, Runaway Blues, Without Tears and Welcome The Morn can now be downloaded as an introduction to "As Eden Lay In Darkness" due to be released later this year.

This is an exciting time for me as I embark on a tour of Germany (with a gig in the Netherlands thrown in for good measure), start releasing tracks from the new album for download and take part in a few Festivals across Scotland.

The tour will be me and the band appearing as The Tom Fairnie Group (an evolution of The Snakes) comprising myself, Mark Barnett, Karen Dietz and Jane Fairnie. We're playing in Apeldoorn in The Netherlands on 18th Sept then driving to Germany for gigs in Wiesbaden (19th), Freidrichsdorf (20th) and Venne (21st).

Just before we go we play the Taybank Songwriters Festival in Dunkeld (6th Sept), and the Edinburgh Songwriters Festival at the Pleasance (14th Sept). Then when we get back we've got the Pitlochry Autumn Festival in October (17th).

Back in March this year we rented a beautiful house just outside Dunkeld and spent a week with excellent friends and musicians recording a new album. I've been persuaded to start releasing tracks as they're finished for download so have the first one on sale here - see the Music page! It's called "Shoeshine Boy" and is about the death of Hank Williams who is one of my musical influences. Watch out for more tracks to be released very soon!

Hi Tom

I got to this page quite by surprise... I googled for Ewan McVicker Tune Book... this was the result!!!

Like the music... am writing for my own band (as well as others writing for us) and hope to put some recordings up soon so you can have a listen if you like. I will try to add as a friend on myspace... thanks for the open invite on this site.

Do you ever get down this way???

Luv Cath

Love the tunes, lyrics and feel of this music, think we've seen you walking round Symi in the past so you obviously have good taste in location!

Hi all (Joe and Eddie in particular) Thank you for all your comments. It's so heartening to get such positive feedback. I'm just so pleased to get my music out there and, whilst I hope that the songs connect with people, it is good to get a response that seems to indicate that it's working. The most exciting things for me right now, in terms of my music, are working on new songs with The Snakes and getting some airplay. Mind you; you could always email a request to Iain Anderson and make me an even happier man :-) We've started recording and I'm optimistic that it will take things to a new level. I hope you'll keep listening and coming along to gigs. The one in Dunkeld recently was an absolute highlight for us. Nick Allmark deserves a huge thank you for being such a great performer, host and organiser.

To a great poet, great picker, great singer: My biggest breath of fresh air for the past 20 years of listening to everything I could get my hands on. When it gets this late in the evening, and I'm done rolling home, I turn on my little radio and pour me a tall glass of Wild Geese.......Cheers.

Tom I was lucky enough to see you perform at the Taybank on Saturday night (24th Feb) and just wanted to say thank for a great evening. Your lyrics are magical and when you talked about imagery I could see just where you were coming from. My favourite song of the whole night (all performers included) was your last song before the encores, I think it was something like "When I Hold Her", but it totally choked me with emotion. Your vocal backing was superb, two beautiful voices that blended perfectly and tight harmonies that gave your songs added texture and quality. I hope you come back to the Taybank soon! Ed
